Topological Invariance at Finite Temperature

چکیده
We examine the thermal behavior of a theory with charged massive vector matter coupled to Chern-Simons gauge field. We obtain a critical temperature Tc, at which the effective mass of vector field vanishes, and the system transfers from a symmetry broken phase to topological phase. The phase transition is suggested to be of the zeroth order, as the free energy of the system is discontinuous at Tc. Application to the (2+ 1) dimensional quantum gravity is briefly discussed. 0∗ [email protected]

Large gauge invariance in non-Abelian finite temperature effective actions
We analyze large gauge invariance in the non-Abelian, finite temperature context and its physical consequences for D53 effective actions. After briefly reviewing the structure of bundles and large gauge transformations that arise in nonsimply connected 3-manifolds and gauge groups, we discuss their connections to Chern-Simons terms and Wilson-Polyakov loops. We then provide an invariant charact...
متن کاملPhase Transition in (2 + 1)d Quantum Gravity
(2 + 1) dimensional gravity is equivalent to an exactly soluble non-Abelian Chern-Simons gauge field theory [1]. Regarding this as the topological phase of quantum gravity in (2+1)d, we suggest a topological symmetry breaking by introducing a mass term for the gauge fields, which carries a space-time metric and local dynamical degrees of freedom. We consider the finite temperature behavior of t...
متن کاملOn the Chern-Simons Topological Term at Finite Temperature
The parity-violating topological term in the effective action for 2+1 massive fermions is computed at finite temperature in the presence of a constant background field strength tensor. Gauge invariance of the finite-temperature effective action is also discussed. A remarkable property of three dimensional gauge theories coupled to matter is the dynamical generation of the Chern-Simons (CS) topo...
متن کاملFinite Temperature and Large Gauge Invariance
Gauge theories are beautiful theories which describe physical forces in a natural manner and because of their rich structure, the study of gauge theories at nite temperature [1] is quite interesting in itself. However, to avoid getting into technicalities, we will not discuss the intricacies of such theories either at zero temperature or at nite temperature. Rather, we would study a particular ...
